After publishing your site, Google needs to discover and index it before it shows up in search results. Here's the timeline.
1-3 days: Google discovers your site exists (faster if you submit via Search Console).
1-2 weeks: Your homepage and main pages are indexed.
2-4 weeks: You start appearing in search results for your business name.
1-3 months: You start ranking for service + location keywords (e.g., "plumber in Denver").
Claim your Google Business Profile and add your website URL. This is the single fastest way to get Google's attention.
Submit to Google Search Console: verify your site and submit your sitemap. Ask in chat: "What's my sitemap URL?"
Get listed in directories: Yelp, Facebook Business, Apple Maps, Nextdoor. Each link back to your site signals to Google that you're legit.
Every site includes a sitemap, proper meta tags, semantic HTML, and fast load times — all things Google rewards. You don't need to configure any of this.
SEO is a long game. You won't rank #1 for "plumber" overnight — that keyword has national competition. But "emergency plumber in [Your City]" is very achievable within 2-3 months with a well-built site and a claimed Google Business Profile.
